Catherine Gordon

Catherine is currently the Director of Human Resources for Canuck Place Children’s Hospice.  Prior to that she worked for the David Suzuki Foundation leading their HR function, the BC College of Teachers and Rocket Gaming Systems in Canada.  Originally from Belfast, Northern Ireland, she started her HR career in London, U.K. at a recruitment agency, Goodman Masson, before working for two global law firms Allen & Overy & Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer,  then moved into the non-profit sector as Head of HR Services for The MedicAlert Foundation.

Throughout her career Catherine has been an HR Generalist responsible for attraction, recruitment, on-boarding, orientation, benefits, compensation, training and development, performance management, OH&S, Diversity & Inclusion, strategy planning, budget management, succession planning and staff engagement.  She is a lifelong learner and is a CHPHR, SHRM-SCP, as well as a Certified Prepare Training Instructor (Crisis Prevention Institute).  She also has certifications in Strategic Human Resources Practices (Cornell University), Leading a Mentally Healthy Workplace (Queens University), Leadership and Inclusion (Centennial University), Employment Supports Speciality Advanced Certificate (Douglas College) and is currently pursuing the Mindful Leader Program through Mindful Employer.

She is a strong believer in volunteering and has been a mentor to new immigrants through MOSIAC since 2011, and for the Beedie School of Business Mentorship program from 2012.  As co-chair of the HR Non Profit Group since 2009 she enjoys connecting with and supporting other HR professionals in the sector.
