Anastasia Gaisenok

Executive Director

Anastasia was born and raised in Belarus, and has been living on unceded Coast Salish territories since 2003. Her passion is building a more just and sustainable world through education, and she is incredibly honoured to lead the amazing Check Your Head team.

Anastasia brings more than a decade of experience in leadership, community organizing, education, program development, management and evaluation. Prior to joining Check, she worked with the Justice Education Society of BC where she developed and delivered educational programming on such topics as active citizenship, democracy, gender equality, women’s rights and violence prevention. She also spent five years building and coordinating the work of the We Can End All Violence Against Women Coalition of BC. Anastasia has extensive experience working with youth, immigrants, teachers, community service providers, labour unions, First Nations, and other diverse groups across the province.

She is a former member of the Women’s Advisory Committee for the City of Vancouver and of the Steering Committee of the BC Health Coalition. She served on the board of Oxfam Canada, and chaired the BC Poverty Reduction Coalition.

Anastasia holds a BA in Anthropology and an MA in International Studies from Simon Fraser University, and is currently working on obtaining a Certificate in Evaluation for Social Change and Transformation.
