On June 26th, Check Your Head hosted a delicious evening of art, activities, and community on food justice. 25 participants gathered at Britannia Community Centre for catered food from Potluck Cafe and to explore how we can contribute to food justice as individuals and communities. Indigenous media educator, artist, and activist Cease Wyss opened the event, followed by a discussion facilitated by the Guerrilla Gardeners from the Purple Thistle on getting youth involved in gardens. Spoken word artist Dini wowed us all with her spoken word performance before queer Filipina feminist activist Katie Zalazar led us in a closing discussion about comfort food. One of the highlights of the evening was the group art project we created about the importance of food justice in our communities.
