Join the 'Migrant Youth Lead the Way' Project today!

Applications for our ‘Migrant Youth Lead the Way!’ Youth Team are OPEN! Check Your Head is looking for passionate, driven and justice-oriented youth to be part of this amazing project!

Along with a team of other young people, you will receive knowledge and training in leadership, facilitation and community organizing skills, while also learning about issues surrounding migrant justice and racism. You’ll connect with people and leaders from your community, and put your ideas for change into real action!

This project provides opportunities for you to:

  •  participate in anti-oppression, facilitation and leadership training
  • use your new skills to facilitate Migrant Justice workshops
  • plan action-based activities and initiatives to implement in your community
  • be paid an honorarium in recognition of your hard work and commitment to this project!

We invite racialized youth aged 16-22 (including those who identify as people of colour, migrants, refugees, and mixed-race peoples), and those who have migration experience (either personally or through their families) to join our youth team. The deadline to apply is September 7th, 2017.

Program Information and Important Dates

We will be hosting an information session on Thursday, August 31st, 2017 from 5-6pm at the BYRC for you to come learn more about the program, see our space, and for you to bring anyone along who you think would want to get involved! As well, the first official session of the program will be held on Thursday, September 14th, 2017 from 4:30-7pm. Please mark and reserve these important dates, we hope to see you there!
From  September 2017 – February 2018, through a series of workshops and action-based learning opportunities/initiatives, along with training and mentorship, participants will learn how they can work together with their peers to actively promote anti-racism, inclusion, and equity in their communities and beyond. Participants will share their work at a project wrap up event in February 2018 and will be paid an honorarium for their full participation after the completion of the project.
